On May 2nd, 40 local government elected officials and staff from Southside Virginia gathered for a workshop focused upon public finance opportunities. The event, organized by VRA, was located at the New College Institute in Martinsville.

On May 2nd, 40 local government elected officials and staff from Southside Virginia gathered for a workshop focused upon public finance opportunities. The event, organized by VRA, was located at the New College Institute in Martinsville. Guest speakers included representatives from several statewide organizations, including the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Department of Housing and Community Development.  Workshop sessions focused on public finance best practices, as well as market dynamics and opportunities unique to smaller localities such as those in the Martinsville/Danville region. The program included a networking luncheon and presentation provided by the USDA Department for Rural Development.
