The City won the award for Phase II of its Lead Service Line Replacement Project, which is an ambitious project to replace legacy drinking water pipes. The AQUARIUS awards recognize projects funded in part by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF), administered by states with capitalization grants flowing from the federal government.
Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) won the EPA’s PISCES award for excellence in innovative financing for its “Programmatic Loan”. The PISCES awards recognize projects funded by the Clean Water SRFs. HRSD embarked on using the Clean Water SRF to advance its cutting-edge capital plan in a holistic way rather than on a project-by-project basis. HRSD’s Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) program has been projected to save the region over $1 billion over the decade and will help to address the regional land subsidence issue.
VRA is proud to financially manage the Drinking Water and Clean Water SRFs with the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water and the Department of Environmental Quality, respectively. Congratulations to all of the partnering entities that have brought these projects to fruition.
